INTRODUCTION:

This Manual covers the models in the Volkswagen Station Wagon, Transporter and Bus range, generally referred to as Type 2 vehicles, with a water-cooled carburettor or fuel injection engine. The following engines are covered in this manual:

• The 1.9 litre carburettor engine has the type designation "OF" if a Solex PICT carburettor is fitted. The engine has a performance of 60 BHP (DIN) at 3700 rpm.
• A 1.9 litre engine with reduced compression (type "EY") is also fitted with the same carburettor, with a reduced performance of 55 BHP (DIN) at 3700 rpm.
• A 1.9 litre engine with increased performance and a Solex 2E3 carburettor (type "DG"). This engine has a performance of 78 BHP (DIN) at 4600 rpm.
• The fuel injected 1.9 litre engine, type "GW" has been introduced for model year 1984. The engine operates with the so-called "Digijet" system and developes a performance of 90 BHP (DIN) at 4600 rpm.
• The 2.1 litre fuel injected engine (type "DJ") has been introduced in 1985. It operates with a "Digijet" system and has a performance of 112 BHP at 4800 rpm.
• The 2.1 litre fuel-injected engine (type "MV"). This engine is fitted with a so-called "Digifant" system and is equipped with a catalyst, Lambda probe and a fully electronic ignition system. "Digifant" is the designation for a micro processor-controlled ignition and fuel injection system, which has a common control unit. The same engine is also fitted with the "Digijet" system. The performance of both engines is 95 BHP (DIN) at 4800 rpm.
