Until the latter part of the 1950s, the motorcycle market in the United States wasof two stateside manufacturers and a handful of British and German brands. The U.S. builder's roots could be traced back to the turn ant dsat century while the European brands came an a bit later. The classic Indian brand succumbed to market pressures in 1953, leaving only Harley-Davidson as the sole American maker of two-wheeled transportation.
