Author: Graham Gauld, Hardbound, 160 Pages, ISBN: 9781852601447 - 3rd Edition, 1989 - Second-Hand book in excellent condition !

On 7 April 1968, an era in motor racing came to an end with the death of Jim Clark in an International Formula 2 race at Hockenheim in Germany. Such was his charisma that he is not only remembered fondly by those who watched him race, but is now also discussed with affection by a new generation of enthusiasts who never even saw him.

What really happened at Hockenheim? Many answers to questions about the likeable Scottish sheep farmer are contained in this memento of his unique career. It not only tells how Clark became the foremost driver in the world, but also reveals his feelings and attitude towards life gleaned from the insights of those who were close to him, particularly Colin Chapman with whom he had a unique rapport.

Another outstanding feature of this book is the remarkable collection of photographs, showing Jim Clark behind the wheel (be it sports car, milk cart or Formula 1 Grand Prix car), triumphant and despondent, pensive and joking. All his moods and the most significant moments of his career are recorded here.

Graham Gauld is the former editor of the Scottish Motor World magazine and has contributed to many other motoring publications, both in Britain and abroad. He assisted Jim Clark with his autobiography in 1962, and also wrote another book about his career which was published just after his death, becoming one of the very few motoring books ever to appear in the best sellers' list. He is a member of the RAC Race Committee, a director of Ingliston Racing Circuit and Chairman of the Scottish Motor Racing Club which Jim Clark founded.
