`...splendidly illustrated...a most valuable addition to Jaguar lore.'Road & Track (USA)

This fourth edition of Andrew Whyte's best-selling Jaguar hook — revised and updated by Paul Skilleter and Michael Cotton — brings right up to date the superbly researched chronicle of a great British company, its people and its products.

The story begins in the 1920s with William Lyons' first business venture, manufacturing the Swallow sidecar. It is here that this definitive history— which won for Andrew Whyte the prestigious Montagu Trophy — differs from the many other books on this famous marque: it is as much about the people associated with the company over the years as it is about their products.

Since the original edition was published in 1980, much has happened to Jaguar. Following a highly successful period as a private company under the energetic leadership of (Sir) John Egan, unprecedented changes in the world's automobile market drove Jaguar to seek a partner, and in 1989 the company was purchased by Ford.

Yet while the parent company's vast resources have been used to upgrade quality and maintain competitiveness, the original spirit of Jaguar still shines through. This new edition continues the story with the same works co-operation that gave the original book its spellbinding detail.

- Today, twenty-odd years later the company still exists under the ownership of Tata Motors (India) and is still producing some most interesting and exclusive cars which have an excellent pedigree to fall back on at the very least !
