This is a book about an engine that needs no introduction - so naturally this is the introduction! Not for the engine, but for the book.

There's an old saying, "catch a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish and he can eat for life!" Teaching, is what I hope this book is about. In this case the lessons are about the enduring and endearing EvOlution 'X' engine, in all it's variations. It's not a reference book, yet I hope you'll refer to it over and over. It's not a shop manual, but it might make a good companion for one. It's not a step-by-step guide, though perhaps it will get you a step or two closer to understanding the intricacies, idiosyncrasies, internals, even a bit of the soul of one of the best overall powerplants ever designed.

But regardless of how much or how little you learn, the real purpose is to get you interested in learning more. Because you can never know WO much! You may get a great insight from the mechanic at the shop, or the guy down the block, or someone you ride with (or would like to) - wisdom and education can come from anywhere, if you want to look for it.
