The Chevrolet introduced in 1962 was initially marked as the 'thrift car' and came with a four-cylinder engine or an optional ohv six and it was not until 1964 that the small-block V8 arrived, together with a conversion kit for earlier models. The Nova SS, fitted with a variety of V8s, including the legendary L79, kept the reputation high into the 1970s.
