For 60 years, Castle Combe Circuit has been at the forefront of motor sport in the South West. From a venue struggling to survive in the 1950s to a track facing imminent closure in the 1970s, the track is now a thriving business bringing millions of pounds into the local economy and providing thrills and enjoyment for thousands.
This is the story of the circuit across six decades; a time when many famous drivers have tackled the challenging Wiltshire track. Among them are eight drivers who went on to become Formula 1 World Champions; Mike Hawthorn, Graham Hill, John Surtees, Jody Scheckter, Alan Jones, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill.
In addition, another 10 Grand Prix winners have raced at Castle Combe; Stirling Moss, Peter Collins, Tony Brooks, Peter Gethin, Jochen Mass, Carlos Pace, Eddie Irvine, Johnny Herbert, David Coulthard and Heikki Kovalainen.
