Author Hartmut Lehbrink and photographer Rainer Schlegelmilch were close to Lotus from its earliest days in Formula One in the late 1950s. Over the next two decades they were on hand as the team captured seven championships with such legendary drivers as Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Jochen Rindt, and Mario Andretti. Team Lotus in Formula One draws upon vintage interviews with founder Colin Chapman and his drivers, engineers, and crew, as well the latest input from the re-born team led by Tony Fernandes. Along with hundreds of spectacular images from the track and behind the scenes, the book includes two CDs featuring high-resolution images, video, and podcasts.
This beautifully illustrated large-format volume is arranged in sections covering major eras in the team’s history, starting with its launch in 1958. Later periods are defined through major sponsors, from Gold Leaf tobacco in 1968 through Camel and Hitachi in the 1980s and 1990s. There are also chapters on major Lotus drivers and benchmark cars, as well as profiles of Chapman and Fernandes. The two CDs included with the book feature the following materials:
CD 1: The Best of the Team Lotus Podcasts – 2010 Highlights
Eight podcasts covering everything from the revived team’s official London introduction in February 2010 through its appearances at races in Malaysia, Monaco, Valencia, Silverstone, Hungary, Belgium, and Abu Dhabi. There’s also a concluding season review podcast and an end-of-season video documentary.
CD 2: Team Lotus Images and Documentary
Including exclusive Team Lotus photographs plus behind the scenes material—from the early days of car development and pre-season testing through all 19 events in the 2010 Formula One calendar.
