The Subaru Impreza went on sale in November 1992, powered by a boxer engine, and with the option of four-wheel drive on certain models. It was also available as an estate. Early 1994 saw the first STi versions join the line up, followed by a two door coupe shortly after. However, two years later, 'Brand New' generation was launched. By this time, Subaru was already making an impact on the World Rally Championship scene, with the Impreza taking over from the Legacy as the chosen weapon for the company's assault on the series. Claiming no less than three WRC titles (won in 1995, 1996 and 1997), the Impreza deservedly secured its place in history as one of the most successful rally cars of all time.
This book looks at the history of Subaru, including its fascinating early heritage, the background to the Impreza, the full story of the myriad models in Japan and major export markets, and round by round coverage of the Impreza's WRC challenge.
Pictures have been sourced almost exclusively from the factory and its concessionaires around the world. The remaining shots are either from contemporary catalogues or advertising, or are press cars photographed in 100 percent standard trim at the time of launch.
This book will be an invaluable tool for those searching for originality.
