Description

By: Martin Bennett .

The names Rolls-Royce and Bentley have long been synonymous with engineering excellence, longevity, luxury and beauty of line. All these attributes were developed to a very high degree after World War II, the period examined in this unique book.

This third edition of a best-selling classic offers a more comprehensive and detailed account of the post-war development of the Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor car than ever before, and features an exclusive foreword by His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester.

First published in 1995. Rolls-Royce and Bentley: The Crewe Years has been fully revised and expanded for this third edition and now contains over 900 superb photographs and drawings of everything from chassis to interiors. There are many, many rare period photographs, and some new colour material, including designers' wash drawings.

The period since World War II has seen the extinction of the once great British coachbuilding trade that provided the elegant coachwork for Rolls-Royce and Bentley chassis. This book includes detailed accounts of the histories of these coachbuilders and their varied
and beautiful products, together with the standard factory saloons and the superbly engineered chassis on which they were mounted.

The remarkable story of these automotive aristocrats is traced from the resumption of production by Rolls-Royce Ltd after World War II up to the construction of the last Rolls-Royce - a 2002 Comiche Convertible - to be built at Crewe.

Few authors are more eminently qualified to write the history of post-war Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars than Martin Bennett, who spent more than 20 years painstakingly researching his subject. He was born and educated in Gloucestershire and has lived in Australiasince 1962. Editor of the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club of Australia's journal PRAECLARUM from 1984 to 2004, and later Editor of the Sir Henry Royce Foundation of Australia's Foundation Bulletin from its inception, he has owned many Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars, and has extensive driving experience of most models, from 1905 to the present day.

This new edition will be a superb addition to the libraries of all Rolls-Royce and Bentley enthusiasts.
