This is the record of the original Riley Motor Company and its wide range of beautifully made pre-war motor cars.
There can be few cars better worth restoring today than a 'Coventry' Riley. The marque grew from the early interest in motors of the four sons of William Riley, a craftsman-engineer to the weaving industry, at the end of the last century.
Advanced design and superb craftsmanship was always the hall-mark of anything the Riley family made; indeed Rileys pioneered many features of present day cars which are now taken for granted, such as the centre-lock wheel of the sports car. The design of the first Riley Nine Monaco was carefully studied even by Rolls-Royce.
The fine competition record of the Riley sports and racing models is well told and adds great interest to the book.
