When the first edition of this book was published in 1992, the Twin Cam engine designed by Aurelio Lampredi was still in production. Now, the story is complete.
In 1998 the last car to be powered by the engine, the Lancia Delta HPE, rolled off the production line. During those 32 years the engineering reserve of the original design led to successive development from the basic 90bhp 1,438cc unit to the final 16-value, counter-balanced turbocharged 220bhp masterpiece.
Fitted to countless production models carrying Fiat, Lancia and even Alfa Romeo badges, the engine also powered many competition cars, collecting world motorsport titles along the way.
Although no longer in production, the engine is still a popular choice of many national club racing drivers who use it to good effect.
