Design of the Silver Spirit started as early as 1972, but it was not until 1980 that it entered production with most of the chassis design of the Shadow carried over. Sales fell sharply in the early eighties and did not improve until the arrival of the Mulsanne Turbo. This turn in fortune meant more plans were put in motion by the end of the decade. A casualty of the low years was the Camargue, not well loved there was little sadness when it was dropped. However, the Corniche and Continental models carries on throughout the period with progressive updating.
