It was 1992. As a driver, Dick Landy had been retired from drag racing for more than a decade, but the era of restoring vintage drag racing cars was just beginning, and the folks at Carlisle's legendary fairgrounds in Pennsylvania had inaugurated a new event just for Chrysler vehicles.

One car that had come out of the woodwork was one of Landy's original 1968 Hemi Darts, and Dick and his wife, Gean, had been invited to the show.

On a cool Friday evening that weekend, I witnessed Mr. Landy perform the ritual of brooming down gold-dust rosin onto a backwoods 1/8-mile track at sunset, then rev up that Hemi and launch it as if he had never stopped. That was how I met Dick Landy.

Landy's storied career was a source of much lore and recollection from Chrysler's large base of enthusiasts, and I worked with him as editor of Mopar Muscle and on a variety of restored drag cars as my vocation in the automotive media progressed during the following two decades.

To be able to document that history for this book has been a wonderful opportunity for me as both a researcher and as a friend. Thanks again, Mr. Landy.

— Geoff Stunkard

At no other time has Landy's entire career been chronicled and cataloged in print with this much attention to detail.

'One of the greatest innovators of his time, Dick I,andy was one of those guys who made you rush back kl to your seat from the concession stand so you could watch him navigate the 1320.

Win, lose, or draw, watching one of landy's Dodges battling the likes of Ronnie Sox, "Grumpy" Jenkins, or Hubert Platt was worth the price of admission alone.

Landy's Dodges: The Mighty Mopars of "Dandy" Dick Landy takes you chronologically through the cars of Dick's career, from piloting his first mount (1954 Ford Pickup) through his historic years of campaigning Dodges.

Chrysler racing historian and author Geoff Stunkard presents a highly detailed account of Dick's cars, including results and images from the Landy family's personal archive and modern shots of his restored cars.

In addition to coverage of Dick's 1964 S/S Dodge and 1968 Hemi Dart, you also find scarce information about his Ford Galaxies and Plymouth Savoy.

At no other time has Landy's entire career been chronicled and cataloged in print with this much attention to detail. Sit back in your recliner (wheels up) and enjoy the most comprehensive book on the history of "Dandy" Dick Landy and his cars.
