They set out in two Land-Rovers, and drove a of 32,000 miles over tarmac, desert, am snows, swamp, and jungle.

Slessor gives a light-hearted account, in the spirit that animated the expeditiom the start. Ambitious as it all was, it is described much as if it was a pleasure jaunt.
