Porsche participated in the Mille Miglia from 1952 to 1957, initially with the elegant 356 coupe with 1100, 1300 and 1500cc displacements, and then with the sleek 550 open sports car in standard and RS configurations and, in the last edition of the race, the new 356A Carrera.
Those cars, frequently class winners, were driven by the Stuttgart based firm's own men, Huschke von Hanstein, driver and team manager, Richard von Frankenberg and Hans Herrmann, as well as by Italian and international champions of the calibre of Giovanni Lurani, Umberto Maglioli, Giovanni Bracco and Wolfgang von Trips.
This brief yet intense sporting episode has never previously been recounted in full, and through a comprehensive text and rare and previously unpublished photos, this book provides readers with the opportunity to witness an encounter between two motor sport legends, the Mille Miglia and the racing Porsches.
It also presents an overview of the marque's participation in other Italian races of the period.
