Description

ISBN: 9781844259908, Authors: Paul Frere, Tony Dron

The Porsche 911, introduced in 1963, has long been regarded as the world's favourite high-performance car and it retains that accolade as it passes an extraordinary landmark - its 50th anniversary.
It is remarkable for any car to remain in continuous production for this length of time, but even more so in the case of the 911, which continues to command respect on both road and track, despite increasing competition.

In this classic best-selling book - first published in 1976 and progressively updated to chronicle the car's evolution - the entire development history of the 911 is described through successive generations, from the introduction at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show of the original air-cooled 2-litre model to today's exemplary 991-series cars in 3.4-litre and 3.8-litre variants.

Porsche 911 Story was originally written by Paul Frere and that first edition of 1976, with a relatively small page size, was a mere 200 pages long. By the eighth edition, published in 2006, the book had more than doubled in length. Following Frere's death in 2008, the updating task was taken up by Tony Dron, and now this ninth edition, which has been totally redesigned in a much larger format, stretches to 600 pages.

For Porsche enthusiasts as well as those who can only dream of owning one of these thoroughbreds, this magnificent book provides a feast of reading, with the emphasis very much on technical description and analysis, complete with hundreds of photographs and diagrams. It is no exaggeration to state that this is the most important book ever written about the Porsche 911.
