Description

Author: Peter Morgan, Hardbound, 144 Pages, ISBN: 9781901432169, This updated edition first published in 1998 - VERY RARE 2nd HAND BOOK IN EXCELLENT CONDITION**

The Porsche 911, one of the greatest sports cars the world has ever seen, has had an extraordinary career since its launch 35 years ago. Born in the year of President Kennedy's assassination, it survives today, in much modernised form and now water-cooled, because Porsche's relentless development has prevented it from ever reaching its sell-by date — and because passionate enthusiasts have kept on buying it. The 911 has become a legend in its own lifetime.

Development work, too, has been put into this book. Published in 1995, the first edition of Original Porsche 911 took the story up to 1993, concluding with the 3.6-litre Carrera 4 and Carrera 2 '964' models. Since then the '993' family has come and gone, production ceasing in 1998 to make way for the fifth-generation 911, generally referred to as the '996'. The addition of a new 16-page chapter on the '993'; together with other revisions, keeps this second edition bang up to date as a
comprehensive survey of the 911 story so far.

Original Porsche 911 aims to reveal, in words and colour pictures, how the complex 911 family has altered in detail from 1963 to 1998. Drawing from factory records and technical references, author Peter Morgan provides a wealth of information, much of it not published elsewhere, about the specification evolution of the 911. Production changes, chassis and engine number sequences, body colours, interior trim permutations, options lists, production figures — all the minutiae are covered as the 911 story unfolds.

Accompanying the authoritative text are over 230 photographs, the majority of them specially commissioned, showing the
significant changes in 911 specification over the years. A painstaking search for 911s of the highest quality and authenticity has resulted in nearly 40 cars being photographed for this book in the UK, the USA and Germany. The illustrations in themselves provide a valuable reference source.

This updated edition enhances the reputation of Original Porsche 911 as the indispensible guide for all owners, buyers, restorers and enthusiasts.

Peter Morgan is superbly qualified to write this book. On the ownership side, he bought his first Porsche, a 1973 911T, in 1978, and has not been without one since. On the practical side, he carried out a ground-up restoration of his present 911S 2.4, doing all the work himself except for repairs to the body structure. On the writing side, he was Editor of Porsche Post, Porsche Club GB's award-winning quarterly magazine, between 1990-94, he has contributed articles on Porsche topics to many magazines world-wide, and he has written three books about Porsches.

On the research side, he has frequently visited the Porsche factory in Stuttgart, and much of the information he has gathered appears in this book. And on the driving side, he has experienced most 911 models over the years.

A chartered engineer by training, he lives in Marlborough, Wiltshire, with his wife, two daughters and one son.

John Colley is an outstanding photographer whose work appears in car magazines all over the world. Having trained as an industrial photographer with Rolls-Royce aero engines, he made his name initially as a freelance motor racing photographer. Later he broadened into
all aspects of motoring photography, and nowadays he runs a thriving photographic agency based near Derby. Porsche 911s are a passion and he owns the 1987 Club Sport featured in this book. He took the photographs for this book, his fourth Original title, on Fujichrome Velvia film using Canon Eos 35mm and Mamiya RB67 medium-format cameras.
