Description

Author: Roy Bacon, ISBN: 9780957066519, soft cover book, 240 pages — 250 illustrations — extensive data - 2011 Andover Reprint of 1986 Osprey original.

It can hardly be any great surprise that the third book in this restoration series should be on Norton twins and follows ones on Triumph and BSA, as this is just the same as in the earlier Osprey Collector's Library. Again it is written in responsc to a call for more detail on restorations and, as with the others, seeks to aid identification as well as provide a guide on the techniques used when working. As with the other titles, the basics of dating, colours and specifications are included along with much more.

Once more I have to thank my good friend Don Mitchell who supplied most of the basic data from his stock of second-hand motorcycle literature. Other material from Richard Negus of Norton Motors filled up some gaps.

The most important help I received with this book came from two well-known Norton Owners Club members who looked closely at the manuscript. One was John Hudson, who paid particular attention to the large twins, and the other was Andy Sochanik, who dealt with the small ones. Both put,the text under close scrutiny and came back with corrections, alterations and, best of all, many useful additions based on their extensive experience of the marque. We are all in their debt.

The pictures and line drawings came mainly from the EMAP archives which hold the old Motor Cycle Weekly files, for which my grateful thanks. Others were from the Motor Cycle News files, courtesy of editor Jim Lindsay, and a number from Amal and Lucas material originally.

A number of the pictures carried the imprint of a professional and photos used came from Cecil Bailey, Court Studio, Dennis Dobson, K. G. Jones, Donald Page and Publifoto. As usual all the pictures were returned to their files after publication and I have tried to make contact to clear copyright. If my letter failed to reach you or I have used an unmarked print without realizing this, please accept my apologies.
Finally, my thanks to Tim Parker for conceiving the idea of this series and to Tony Thacker, my present editor, for bearing with me and helping to bring this one to a conclusion.
