Synopsis

This book presents in-depth interviews with 24 'motor sport greats', all characters with a story to tell. The idea was to get them to suggest their favourite pub or restaurant for a good meal, and gently prod them into opening up their memories and opinions with frank and honest insights about themselves, about the people they'd known and worked with, and about the drivers they'd raced against. The result is a compelling read, beautifully crafted by one of Britain's top motor sport writers.

Charismatic Formula 1 World Champions are here: Emerson Fittipaldi, Mario Andretti, Jody Scheckter, Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Damon Hill and Nigel Mansell, all of whom share colourful memories over diverse lunches. Andretti chose a cheeseburger in his home town; Rosberg had only an espresso, to save his waistline.

Modern British heroes from contrasting arenas of motor sport are included: triple Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti, Formula 1 driver-turned-pundit David Coulthard and Land Speed Record holder Andy Green. Other great drivers in this book are Chris Amon, Derek Bell, Jacky lckx, Hans-Joachim Stuck and Brian Redman.

Simon Taylor has been immersed in motor sport for over 45 years as a journalist, publisher and commentator. His working life has been spent largely with Haymarket Magazines, where he began as Editorial Assistant on Autosport and finished as Chairman. For many years he was BBC radio's voice of motor racing, reporting on Formula 1 from all over the world. Nowadays he is Editor at Large of both Motor Sport and Classic & Sports Car magazines.
