Description

Author: Jonathan Edwards, Softbound, 96 Pages, ISBN: 9781861264695, 1st Edition, 2001

THE MGB can rightly claim a place among the longest-lived and best-loved sports cars in the history of motoring. Launched at the London Motor Show in September 1962, the MGB became the most successful British sports car of . all time, selling over half a million before production ended in 1980.

Designed as a replacement for the pretty and successful MG the B had a lot to live up to, but the improved performance given by its 1.8-litre engine and its more up-to-date body design made the car a winner. The arrival of the MGB GT in 1965 added all-year-round sporting practicality to the
MG's range and later on two further major variants — the six-cylinder MGC and the potent MGB GT V8 — offered the same package with added performance.

Though compromized in looks and handling by the need to comply with safety legislation in the all-important US market, the MGB never fell from favour. It remains one of the most popular of all classic cars and Jonathan Edwards' detailed review of the model provides the perfect. tribute to Abingdons' most famous product.
