Description

Author: Jurgen Lewandowski, Edited by Marco Ruiz, 3-Volume Slipcased Edition, ISBN: 9788879601269 - English and Italian Text -  - Second Hand item in excellent order !

The celebrations for "100 years of Mercedes", commemorating not only the centenary of our most prestigious brand but also the centenary of the modern automobile, offer us an ideal occasion for this work to be published.

The first edition came out at an important time not only for the company, but for society in general, where mobility has become such a central concern. It was 1986, and that year we celebrated "100 years of the motorcar", in memory of 1886 when, independently of each other Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler created the very first automobiles.

In the meantime the car has evolved beyond everyone's wildest expectations, and the world with it. Our company, too, has been on a constant growth curve which has brought us to address some very important strategic decisions.
In 1998, the Daimler-Benz AG which celebrated the 1986 centenary, became DaimlerChrysler AG. A worldwide presence, a top selection of prestigious brands, a complete product range and market leader when it comes to technology and innovation: these are the four cornerstones of our company strategy Our aim is to make DaimlerChrysler the world's foremost car manufacturer

Mercedes-Benz is an important part of this, and for our most prestigious brand, the last few years have proved unexpectedly successful, thanks in particular to an aggressive production strategy initiated in 1993. While in 1986 the commercial range numbered only five classes of vehicle with seven main variations, today we present eleven classes of vehicle and a total of fourteen models. Over the same period, Mercedes-Benz production has risen from 600,000 units to over one million in 2000.

But apart from the dynamic company strategy which has always been a part of our rich historic tradition, there is something that has never changed: the fundamental values of the Mercedes-Benz name. Just like a century ago, when Mercedes first came into being, today Mercedes-Benz continues to embody the future of the motorcar

This work, which illustrates over a hundred years of history of Mercedes-Benz production and sporting cars and the original Benz, Daimler and Mercedes brands, reveals the full story.

We hope you enjoy it.

Jurgen E. Schrempp,
Chairman of the Board of Directors of DaimlerChrysler AG
