Description

Author: Roy Bacon, ISBN: 9780957066533, soft cover book,  240 pages over 220 illustrations extensive data - 2011 Andover Reprint of 1989 original Osprey Edition

The fifth title in the restoration series produced its own set of problems in two distinct forms. First was the basic one of dealing with two marques which were almost, but not quite, the same in so many instances. Then, when I thought I was managing to live with this, along came the second in the form of the Norton engine and chassis parts to produce the hybrids.

Thanks to this latter there is a little overlap with the Norton Twin Restoration title in this series but not much and for that engine the other book is the recommended reading. Salient points have, I hope, been included.

Much of the material on which the text of this book was based came once again from my good friend Don Mitchell and his stock of second-hand motorcycle literature. I am equally indebted to Johnnie Walker of the owners club who kindly went through the manuscript to correct and comment as needed and also provided me with service information and machine data. His deep level of expertise helped me and should nelp all who dabble in the Plumstead products. Further help came from Bob Boadeti who checked gearbox data for me even though this meant a visit to the depths of the garage on a dark night.

The pictures and line drawings came mainly from the EMAP archives which hold the old Motor Cycle Weekly files, for which my grateful thanks. Others came from the Motor Cycle News files, courtesy of editor Malcolm Gough, and a couple from my own files.
Some of the pictures would have carried the imprint of a professional and normally they would have been listed, as is the practice of both myself and the publishing house, but this is no longer possible due to the way in which thc prints reach us. However, our thanks as always go to those who drove their cameras in the past when correct exposure owed more to the man behind the lens than the electronics in front of it.

Finally, my thanks to both editors—Tony Thacker who commissioned this one and Nick Collins who had to take it over, for their support during the book's production. Not forgetting Tim Parker who conceived the idea in the first place and the staff at Osprey who as usual did a superb, professional job in bringing the book to its conclusion.

Book is very informative in general terms, though lacks the detail I require to produce a concourse restoration

Still useful to identify certain components
