Iconic drivers in iconic cars on Australia's iconic mountain ...

The one lap Shootout for pole position at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is one of the must-watch highlights each year at Mount Panorama, but many forget that its roots lie in the mighty Group C era of the race.

For the first time, Chevron has dug through the Seven Network archive and compiled in one release the single-lap dash for pole position at Bathurst from the Group C years of 1978 through to 1984.

Dubbed 'Hardies Heroes', the annual shootout resulted in some of the most memorable moments in Bathurst history.

All of the big Bathurst names of the 70s and 80s are featured: Brock, Johnson, Moffat, Walkinshaw, Grice, Richards, Perkins, Bond and Morris - and their cars as well.

Whether it's Brock manhandling his A9X Torana to pole in '78, Kevin Bartlett charging around in the wet to take pole in '81 in his Camaro, Dick Johnson crashing into the trees in the Greens-Tuf Falcon in '83 or George Fury's turbo Bluebird whistling to pole in record time in '84, it's all right here in this three and a half hour release.

Take a trip back down memory lane as Bathurst's iconic drivers throw their iconic cars around the Moutain with prizemoney and pride on the line.

Hardies Heroes: The Group C Years

Posted by Rick H. on 26th May 2017

Overall good, but I bought it thinking it would show the full lap of each and every car whereas some had been shortened. It might have been the way Channel 7 recorded it in the day too, for all I know. A bit disappointing in that regard, but fantastic to see and hear these great cars going flat out around the track.
