Description
By: Graham Robson .
All the cars were brave in concept sophisticated in engineering, their specification so advanced and high-tech that prices were always bound to be high and sales limited.
Yet when Colin Chapman conceived the Elite/Eclat at the end of the Sixties he could not possibly have guessed that two severe energy crises and several major recessions would follow during their lifetime. Commercially, all these cars were gambles when being developed and all were sure to be costly when put on sale, but this never deterred Lotus from forging ahead.
A cautious business might never have taken those gambles nor have persevered with them for so long in the face of a very worrying series of financial traumas.
Lotus enthusiasts however tend to be far more interested in performance character and style than in the study of a balance sheet, so it should be mentioned that each and every one of the cars featured in this book was an instant classic, and their long-term future looks to be assured.
Also included are technical specifications on all these models.
