The Elite and Eclat were never cheap and were not meant to be affordable by the everyday motorist. They exist in various forms with lots of optional equipment and all are fast Grand Tourers. All these cars are based on the same backbone chassis, twin-cam Lotus four-cylinder engine, all-independent suspension and glass fibre bodywork. They share the same nose styling, screen, front doors, facia and controls and are of the same wheelbase. The only real difference is in the level of optional/standard equipment and body styling rear of the doors. All cars built up to the spring of 1980 had engines of 1973cc and later 2174cc.
This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, technical data and analysis, specifications, long-term reports and buying second hand.
