Description
By: Graham Robson .
This book describes the birth, development and rallying career of the Lancia Stratos, Europe's very first purpose-built rally car, in the mid/late 1970s, providing a compact and authoritative history of where, when and how it became so important to the sport.
The Stratos was everything that a 'big boy's toy' should be. Wickedly beautiful, with incredible performance and traction, it also sounded magnificent, and was amazingly effective. By the time it was fully developed, the Stratos started every event as the firm favourite. Victory, when it came, was to be expected, and defeat was usually down to an act of God or mechanical failure.
By any standards, the Stratos was a Rally Giant, for its arrival in 1974 changed the face of rallying forever. With the Stratos there were no compromises. After the Stratos, and to better it, every other company had to begin making special cars too.
