- includes Interceptor R

The similarity in style between the Austin A40 Sports and the original 1950's Jensen Interceptor was no coincidence. The Jensens wanted to produce a sports-touring car using Austin components. Leonard Lord wanted Jensen to design and build a car for Austin. Eric Neale who had joined Jensen as a designer in 1946 submitted several designs and the A40 Sports - Tourer was essentially a smaller Jensen Interceptor. The Jensen Interceptor actually arrived a year before the Austin A40 Sports. The Jensen Interceptor was launched at The London Motor Show in 1949. It's body was the work of Jensen's

Chief Engineer, Eric Neale - who used a lengthened A70 chassis as the platform. The Jensen Interceptor had a 4 litre, six cylinder Austin Sheerline engine. The Jensen Interceptor of 1950 could achieve 100mph and 0-60mph in thirteen seconds. The Jensen Interceptor was available as a fixed head coupe or a convertible. The convertible Interceptor had a rigid Perspex rear and three-quarter windows that sank into the car's body when lowering the hood.
