This successor to the CJ Jeeps took into account that these vehicles were going to be used as every day transport rather than a utility vehicle.
Nevertheless, the Wrangler was still in the mould of the earlier vehicles having a basic open-tub body with occasional seating for four. The chassis components were biased towards road use. The low-profiles tyres improved the handling.
The trend continued when the original YJ gave way to the redesigned TJ model in 1996. Coil springs were used for comfort and airbags came as standard.
This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specification, new model introductions, driver's impressions, long-term tests, and off road experience.
Models covered include:
YJ, Laredo, Sahara, Renegade, S, Islander, Sport, TJ, SE.
