Description

By: Brooklands Books .

Developed from the venerable wartime Jeep the CJ (civilian Jeep) was distributed worldwide by Willys.
The CJ5 and CJ6 were built concurrently (the CJ6 being a longer wheelbase). An optional V6 engine in 1966 upped the horsepower to 155 making a very effective off-roader.

In 1969 American Motors bought the Jeep line from Kaiser Industries, who bought out Willys earlier on.
By 1972 the Jeep's original engines had gone out of production and three new American Motors engines became standard, a 232cu.in in-line six as standard and optional 258cu.in in-line six and 304 V8.
It received a new gearbox and grew in size.

By the end of the 1970s a major portion of the sales was for the leisure market and this was reflected in the better ride and standard of finish.

This is a book of contemporary road tests, new model introductions, specification and technical data, driver's impressions, off-road reports and racing.

Models covered include:
CJ5 Universal, CJ6 Universal, CJ6 409, Dauntless V6, Hurricane, Camper, CJ5 V8, Renegade, Hot Rod, CJ7.
