ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Even though Honda had been producing motorcycles since the late '40s it wasn't until the '60s that their presence was beginning to be felt worldwide. By the late '60s with several `classy' looking models under their belt, they made the giant leap forward with the fantastic CB750 - this was followed a few years later with their `Four' range of bikes, clean lines, cool colours, low-maintenance, oil-leak free, affordable and very shiny! This series was unlike anything that had gone before - it was the `groovy' bikers dream!

This Honda CB500 & 550 Four Performance Portfolio is our fourth Honda title, the others being Honda CB750 Gold Portfolio 1969-1978, Honda CBX 1000 Gold Portfolio 1978-1982 and the Honda Gold Wing Gold Portfolio 1975-1995. All have been well received and we hope this book will give an insight into just how revolutionary these Hondas were.

If you are familiar with Brooklands books you will know our aim is to gather information from all over the globe and, in doing so, create a living archive which in turn we can make available to enthusiasts. Literature which due to time, has become hard to find. In compiling such books as these we depend on the generosity and understanding of the original writers, photographers and of course the publishers of the original journals whose copyright material is reprinted here. In this instance our thanks go to the management of Bike, Cycle, Cycle Guide, Cycle World, Modern Cycle, Motor Cycle Mechanics, Motorcyclist, Motor Cyclist, Motorcyclist Illustrated, New Motorcycling, Superbike and Two Wheels for their continued support.
