The 5th generation Corvette was introduced in spring 1983. Leapfrogging the 1983 model designation this was the 1984 model and as such had to meet the stringent emission standards.
The 1986 model year saw a return to the open roadster, although the numbers were only projected at 6,000 in the year. A well-loved car it had its critics; it was difficult to get into, had a very small luggage area and an uncomfortable footwell.
Callaway built a twin-turbo V8 to be a Porsche/Mercedes beater. However, the ZR1 with its Lotus-engineered LT5 engine set a technological standard in 1988.
This is a book of contemporary road and comparison tests, specification and technical data, model introductions, driving impressions and after-market specials.
Models covered include:
Z51, Convertible, Callawat Twin-Turbo, Z52, Bakeracing Stock car and ZR1.
