Description
By: Car Mechanics & Practical Classics .
Car Mechanics & Practical Classics on Capri restoration is the first joint compilation by these two magazines.
The Car Mechanics content centres around two Capri Mk llls, a 2.8i and a 1.6 Laser. Both were bought as good, basically sound examples which could be and were worth improving with some not too difficult DIY repair work and without spending more than they were worth.
This was undertaken with the cars still on the road as far as possible.
A Mk lll buying guide, features on the 1.6 and 3 litre engines, and three Capri component overhauls complete the Car Mechanics contribution.
The Practical Classics project was rather more ambitious. Regular contributor Mick Moorhouse bought a complete but very rusty Mk l for ?40 (yes, it was very rough!), and set about restoring it on a budget which was still carried out to a high standard.
Mick did this for just over 650 including all parts, paints and other materials.
Practical Classics has also contributed a buying guide, this one written in 1993 and concentrating on the Mk l cars.
Together, these two leading magazines' coverage must represent a unique, and irreplaceable reference source for anyone owning, restoring or just interested in Capris.
