Description

Author: Graham Robson, Hardcover, ISBN: 9781844250158, 405 Pages, 5th Edition, 2003

The 1990 Winner of the Guild of Motoring Writer's Pierre Drefus Award

'It must be possible to make an interesting living, messing about with racing cars and engines.' That thought inspired Keith Duckworth and Mike Costin to set up their own business in 1958. By combining their surnames they established what was to become the world-famous Cosworth Engineering company. Today, although the founders have now retired, Cosworth is highly respected not only in the field of motorsport engines, but also for high-performance road-car power units and technology.
The company, independent until 1980, has been controlled by larger organisations since then. In 1998 the largest-ever transformation saw the operation split into two, with Audi buying Cosworth Technology, while Cosworth Racing - the more glamorous half of the business - went to Ford. This expanded fifth edition of Cosworth - The Search For Power brings right up to date the inspirational story of an enterprise that grew from a two-man operation to a multi-national whose clients include Ford, Mercedes-Benz, General Motors and Audi-VW.
There is analysis of all of Cosworth's individual engines, but also in-depthinterviews with the people who have contributed to the company's development. Cosworth Racing's worldwide competition success is chronicled, including the building of world-class V8 and V10 Formula 1
engines, plus turbocharged V8s for many successful CART race cars, along with engine supply for Ford's world-leading Focus WRC rally cars, and - more recently - the development of high-rewing motorcycle Moto GP power units. There is every sign that the legendary 'Cosworth' title will return to Ford road cars in the future.
Graham Robson, a trained automobile engineer, has co-operated closely with Cosworth Racing on this book. A respected motorsport historian, he has over 120 titles to his credit, including The Works Escorts, Ford in Touring Car Racing and The Works Triumphs.
