Written and photographed by Dennis Adler Tooling down the street in a 'Vette was the ultimate display of "cool" in the early sixties. The Corvette had it all—design, power, mystery, speed. It was truly American. It was America's first production car with an innovative fiberglass body. The '53 'Vette was modelled on European sports cars, with no exterior door handles, door locks or roll-up windows. It was a pure British look—tempered with American taste. The Corvette exuded confidence, security and sex appeal. Watching a Corvette driving down the street evoked feelings of raw, reckless abandonment.
On the asphalt, with the engine cranking out high rpms, the Corvette has captured the world's attention. You'll also see the enormous impact racing had on the advent and success of the Corvette.
Corvettes: The Cars that Created the Legend will take you down that fascinating road of the 'Vette's rise to dominance in the sports car field: from the first Corvette in 1953, to the '63 Sting Ray, to the '88-89 Challenge Series cars to the ZR-Is of today. You'll get interviews with the creators, photographs of concept cars, an introduction by Chip Miller and photographs that capture the spirit of this American legend.
