Description
By: Jay Carnine .
In the mid-fifties Jay Carnine was growing up in California. Like many of his friends, Jay was attracted to hot rod cars and an adventurous lifestyle. "California Hot Rodder" is a chronicle of life in those times. California was a hot-bed of drag racing activity from the middle of the 1950s and Jay and his friends were there from the start. They weren't high profile racers, just the hot rod kids trying to emulate their heroes. Sit with Jay in the cockpit of a dragster on the return road as legendary gassers blast towards him, almost out of control and sending chills of fear down his spine. Join the group of teenagers who take the family Packard to the swimming hole and stare in awe as Jay's little brother beats them all in the dare of a lifetime. Smile to yourself as you recognise the shop class pranks that every young trainee mechanic performed behind the teacher's back.
California Hot Rodder is packed full of dozens of similar stories. It's a reading feast for all hot rodders whether they lived through this golden age of hot rodding or just wish they did.
