325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi (2006) 328i, 328xi (2007 through 2010)

Does not include information specific to 4 cylinder and M3 models, turbocharged models or diesel models, or 2006 325Ci/330Ci Coupe and Convertible models based on the E46 chassis. Also does not include information on the convertible top or rollover protection system.

Introduction

These BMW 3-Series vehicles are available in Sedan, Sports Wagon, coupe and convertible models.

This manual covers models with non-turbocharged gasoline engines. All US models are equipped with a 3.0L inline, DOHC six-cylinder engine.
The engine is mounted longitudinally and drives through the transmission to the rear wheels. Optional AWD is available and utilizes a transfer case that drives a front differential with a driveshaft and driveaxles. Transmissions include a 6-speed manual transmission and a
6-speed automatic.

Suspension is independent at all four wheels; coil spring/shock absorber strut assemblies are used at the front end, with a double-pivot hub control using many aluminum components. The rear suspension utilizes a five-link design, with separate coil springs and shock absorbers. The rack-and-pinion steering is attached to the front subframe.

Disc brakes are used at all four wheels, with power assist as standard. An Anti-lock Brake system is standard on all models.
