AUTHOR'S NOTE
In these days of national economic strain, when the clarion call must be to export, we in this country cannot have all the things we would like or can manufacture. Each one of us cannot have a new car and indeed deliveries to the home market become more and more uncertain.

One would imagine, in these conditions, that enthusiasm for motoring and motor cars would steadily wane. In point of fact, it is clearly obvious that this is not the case, and announcements of new models by the manufacturers are greeted with keener interest than ever before.

Since publication of the 1947 book, many such announcements have been forthcoming and in this revised edition I have aimed at bringing the whole work up-to-date. The material, in all cases, has not demanded alteration but I have purposely introduced other illustrations in order to provide a glimpse of the now familiar cars from other angles.

It is hoped that this book will not only serve to sustain home interests in our cars but provide a ready guide for our overseas purchasers so needed by this nation at this time. If they will buy British manufacturers' products now, the motor industry will see to it that they will want to buy again.

The inclusion of a brief historical survey of the makers' activities has met with considerable approval and because of this the feature has been retained—a background of which the industry can well be proud.

New, in this edition, is "Motoring Memories of 1947," reminding us of some of the interesting events which made the headlines last year.

Once more I wish to acknowledge with thanks the kind co-operation I have had from all the manufacturers concerned, some of whom have willingly provided photographs for reproduction and others who have so helpfully put at my disposal specimen vehicles for photographing purposes.

GRAEME L. GREENWOOD.
Putney,
1948.
